Didier Barbelivien and John Mamann sing in tribute to the victims of October 7

The song Dancing the desertperformed as a duet by the two artists, metaphorically evokes the massacre of the Reïm music festival perpetrated by Hamas.

“Died just a stone’s throw from the border, from dancing in the desert… I have seen so many cemeteries, people on their knees in prayer, that in the end I despair of all of humanity ». The singers, composers and authors Didier Barbelivien and John Mamann perform, in a duet where they superimpose narration and singing, Dancing the deserta tribute song in which they honor the memory of the victims of the Hamas attack, perpetrated on October 7, 2023.

Accompanied soberly on the guitar, the two artists, without ever explicitly naming the massacre of the Réïm music festival perpetrated by Hamas, speak in the name of a martyr of October 7: “How to explain to my mother, how to tell my father, that I died first from dancing in the desert…”.

A pessimistic song

This incomprehension of the war, of the unleashing of violence, leads imperceptibly to a pessimistic conclusion, which goes beyond October 7 and its procession of horrors. John Mamann is the singer-songwriter, who notably worked for Johnny Hallyday (Self-portrait), Elisa Tovati (All Paths) and Grand Corps Malade (I am Charlie). As for Didier Barbelivien, he has been one of the most prolific and successful singer-songwriters and lyricists of French song for almost half a century. He is the author of more than 2,500 songs, written for Johnny Hallyday, Michel Sardou, Gilbert Montagné, Patricia Kaas.
