The Superior Council of the Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE) celebrates this first Monday of October the World Architecture Day demanding exemplary public policies for quality environments, which guarantee a “dignified future” for the population.
Under the motto ‘We project the future now’ in this edition the architects have focused on the “determining role” of their work, on the commitment of their professionals to “project, from the present in which we live, a dignified future for the entire population.”
Furthermore, in a statement they emphasize the need for joint action so that “enjoying an environment built with high architectural quality is a real and effective citizen right, regardless of the place in which one was born“.
Thus, the CSCAE recalls that “global challenges”, such as climate change, have a “undeniable local impact on towns and cities“and warns that they are not prepared for it.
Specifically, it points out the widespread aging of the built stock, with around 60% of existing buildings needing energy rehabilitation, in addition to other pressing improvements in terms of accessibility, conservation and functionality, or the chronic deficit of affordable housing, with a of public rental that does not reach 2%, which they describe as “very far” from the European average.
Faced with this reality, the entity vindicates architecture as “a decisive instrument to improve the well-being, health and safety of people“, and underlines the role of professionals “to shape more friendly, humane and environmentally friendly urban environments”, offering innovative and sustainable solutions.
“Our profession has a mission: the transformation of the built park the planning of environments resilient to climate change, the regeneration of urban fabrics that have already become obsolete and the projection of new housing with the parameters of rigor and quality that a changing world demands, in which Responsibility forces us to think about the next generations, who deserve the opportunity for a fair future“, includes the institutional statement sent to Europa Press.
