The work My Body is Here calls to include and accept people with disabilities

Guanajuato, Gto., In a world where diversity and inclusion are increasingly relevant topics, the Brazilian company Fábrica de Eventos, made up of people with disabilities, presented my body is herescenic proposal with a strong message: we need them to respect us, see us and love us.

At the 52nd International Cervantino Festival (FIC), the group, co-directed by Júlia Spadaccini and Clara Kutner, brought to the stage of the Teatro Principal the situations faced by people with disabilities in areas such as their sexuality.

Fábrica de Eventos does not present stories of personal improvement, but stories of desire: that is its starting point.

The actors are Bruno Ramos, who is deaf and non-oral; Haonê Thinar, amputee; Pedro Henrique França, with dwarfism, as well as Pedro Fernandes, who has cerebral palsy with preserved cognitive function and is a wheelchair user. They share their stories in the search for love and pleasure. Jadson Abraão, actor and Brazilian sign language interpreter, also participates on stage.

Provocation

The protagonists resort to irony about their situation to change perception and promote equality. In fact, the play begins with a provocation towards the audience by asking them: why do you go to the theater? What are they looking for? Do you want something you don’t have?

Pedro Henrique, who performed for the first time with this theater company, dances suggestively while saying: I can give you my skin.

Before the performance, the only one they offered for the FIC, Clara Kutner maintained that people with disabilities “do not want to be special, they want to be like anyone else and we want our work to be a theatrical proposal, not to win the special award.

In these years I have tried to change thinking on this important topic. For example, eight years ago I started working with deaf people because I had a boyfriend, now my husband, who had low vision. So I taught a flamenco class for deaf people, because I am a flamenco dancer, and there I discovered many things about disability..

In my body is here The case of a young deaf man who uses technology to date a girl is also presented; In turn, the person who has no leg discovers true love with another woman.

In addition to showing their bodies, each with their own dreams and desires, the actors of Fábrica de Eventos invite people from the audience to share an erotic dream; There were two spectators who did it.

my body is here It is a call to action, inclusion and acceptance.
