From anti-fascism to ‘Fasciophobia’, Busacca’s essay is in bookstores

An investigation book on the alarms of a return to fascism launched by the Italian left which have become almost “daily since the government of Giorgia Meloni was born”. It is Fasciophobia (published by Signs Publishing, 256 pages, 20 euros), an essay signed by the editor-in-chief of Libero Alberto Busacca, which brings together the long series of “paradoxical and inconclusive” screams of political propaganda. “The mythical ‘risk-fascism’ cannot vanish – writes Daniele Capezzone in the preface – if it did, in one fell swoop the right would be legitimized and the left would be forced to deal with its own divisions, with its own often unsuccessful recipes, to the disenchantment of its supporters”.

“From the constant alarms about ‘fascism at the gates’ to the dream of demolishing the monuments of the twentieth century, from the hoaxes on Giorgio Almirante to the investigation into a cake with the Duce’s face, and then the bears transformed into new partisans, the hunt for Santa Claus with an outstretched arm and shame for the ancestors who wore the black shirt: anti-fascism – is Busacca’s text – is changing its face, transforming into a totally incomprehensible and senseless ‘fasciophobia’ of ridicule, which has ended up damaging anti-fascism itself. Eighty years after the end of the Second World War, in fact, it is increasingly clear that the ghost of Mussolini is being used by the left only to try to maintain positions of power in the political, media and cultural fields”.
