Joan Manuel Serrat, Culture Award from the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents

The singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat has been awarded, unanimously by the jury, with the Culture award from the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents (ACPE) “after a life dedicated to music”, that “has captivated with his songs, his prose and his poetry embraced in the taste for excellence“.

This was announced this Friday by the association that presented the awards, in an event that Serrat could not attend. However, he sent a video message reminding us that, according to Gabriel García Márquez, “the job of journalism is the best job in the world.”

“It is a beautiful job, a risky, poorly paid job in which to report freely and independently and that fulfills a necessary service in this society that we all need,” has assured. The award was collected by his longtime representative José Emilio (Berry) Navarro.

For its part, the Journalism award went to The Objective. “We are immensely grateful because we believe that this award constitutes the most important support that a media outlet can receive today in Spain, because “It is granted by independent professionals from prestigious international companies who observe the Spanish journalistic panorama from a vantage point that is safe from ideological prejudices, business rivalries or personal envy.”said director Álvaro Nieto.

The Tourism award has gone to Paradores de Turismo, for its work in preserving and promoting historic buildings of different uses that have been transformed into charming accommodations, while the Sports award has gone to the Spanish Women’s Water Polo Team.
