Director José Luis Garci, Gold Medal of the 30 Forqué Awards

The director, producer, screenwriter and film popularizer José Luis Garci will be honored next Saturday, December 14, with the Gold Medal of the 30th edition of the Forqué Awards. With this recognition, EGEDA vindicates the work of a fundamental figure for the audiovisual industry.

The president of EGEDA, Enrique Cerezo, has assured that it is a recognition that is granted to him for his “priceless work” for more than half a century at the service of Spanish audiovisuals.

Thus, the statement continues by highlighting Garci’s role as a producer, in addition to that of a director, as well as his “great talent” as a screenwriter that, from his earliest youth, has given rise to works of “high quality.”

“His filmography, in which the bases of classic cinema go hand in hand with the new themes and styles typical of the artistic and social renewal of our country, is a testimony of our recent history and an invaluable part of the Spanish film heritage, to which He has left behind unforgettable stories, characters and moments. Furthermore, we must thank Garci for highlighting the seventh art through his role as a popularizer, both on radio and television, a facet that not only makes him one of the audiovisual professionals; more committed to his craft, but also consecrates him as one of the most devoted film lovers of today and always,” Cerezo concludes.

This recognition, which José Luis Garci will receive during the 30th anniversary gala of the awards at the IFEMA-Madrid Municipal Palace, joins the long trail of national and international awards that crown the filmmaker’s career. Among them, the first Oscar for a film in Spanish stands out with ‘Volver a Volver’ (1982), the first Emmy awarded to Spanish television for ‘La Cabin’ (1972), which he scripted with Antonio Mercero; the Goya for Best Director for ‘Subject approved’ (1987), the National Cinematography Award and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts.
