PP asks Congress to declare the centenary of the generation of 27 as an event of public interest

The Popular Group has registered in the Congress of Deputies a non-legal proposal urging the Government to declare the 100th anniversary of the generation of ’27 as an “event of exceptional public interest.”

In the text, to which Europa Press has had access, the popular formation asks that attention be paid to and recognition of this group of intellectuals and artists “so numerous” who used poetry as a “way to regenerate the paths of art and culture.” .

“Considering that each of these authors makes up their own literary world, it is remarkable how they managed to unite cultural tradition and converge in an aesthetic renewal, from the surrealist poems of Federico García Lorca to the creationism of Gerardo Diego or the social poetry of Rafael Alberti. From his efforts it is understood today that for Spain it is essential to keep the memory alive so as not to forget that in this country the poet sings for everyone, as demonstrated by the verses of ‘Romancero Gitano’ or the necessary transition that occurs from the lyrical self to a us human after the Civil War”, explains the PP.

That is why the PNL urges to develop a program of activities to “valorize and disseminate” the different authors who made up the generation of ’27, creating a consortium of the ‘Year of Exceptional Public Interest’ where all the Autonomous Communities and interested entities, with specific actions in spaces, foundations, museums that have a relationship with the authors of 27 and those on whom they left their mark.

In addition, they appeal to the Ministry of Culture to “get involved” in promoting the protection of the literary legacy through the international promotion of the generation of ’27 with a specific program coordinated between various institutions. Likewise, the PP requests that an inter-administrative commission be approved to organize the commemorative events and request the Honorary Presidency of the Anniversary ‘100 years of the generation of ’27’ to the Kings of Spain.

“The social and political commitment of the generation of ’27 can be seen in their literary works. Many of them wrote about social injustice and political oppression, commitment was a reflection of the social and political tensions and struggles in Spain in the 1920s. 20 and 30. Her literary work continues to be important for understanding our own history and the challenges that we still face today. On the other hand, there are numerous authors of the 27th that are currently being investigated by Spanish universities, in addition to being rescued and edited. and review their complete poetic work, as is the case of Ernestina de Champourcin, Margarita Ferreras, Pilar de Valderrama or Josefina Romo Arregui,” the petition concludes.
