US actor Tony Todd has died

The US actor Tony Todd, known from the “Candyman” films, is dead. Todd died at the age of 69 in his home near Los Angeles, numerous US media reported, citing his management. A cause of death was not initially announced.

Born in Washington in 1954, Todd studied at a theater institute, among other places, before initially taking on smaller roles in series such as “MacGyver” and “Star Trek: The Next Century”.

Later he also got numerous roles in films and on the theater stage. Todd celebrated success particularly in the horror genre – for example with films from the “Final Destination” and “Candyman” series.

Tony Todd’s career spanned four decades. According to media reports, he has appeared in over 200 film and television roles, including in the “Final Destination” franchise, “The Crow” and “The Rock”.

The film star was born in Washington, DC in December 1954 and studied acting at the Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theater Institute. His breakthrough came in 1986 with the role of Sergeant Warren in Oliver Stone’s Vietnam War drama Platoon, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
