Berlin actor Hans Diehl dies

The actor Hans Diehl is dead. As the Berliner Schaubühne announced, citing his family, he died in the capital on November 4th at the age of 83. “The Schaubühne is saying goodbye to a great actor and wonderful colleague,” explained the theater’s artistic director, Thomas Ostermeier. It was a great pleasure to work with him, especially in the early years of the Schaubühne.

Born in Offenbach, Diehl was active in the theater and also on television. From 1970 to 1980 he was a member of the Schaubühne ensemble on Halleschen Ufer in Berlin and then returned again and again as a guest to the house, then at Lehniner Platz. Diehl also worked at theaters in Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Munich and at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, among others.

Diehl also starred in various TV productions, including several multi-part series by director Dieter Wedel. At the Bad Hersfeld Festival in 2016, the actor was on stage in Wedel’s production “Witch Hunt”. Diehl’s sons August and Jakob are also actors.
