40 years after his death, Milan pays homage to Giandante The event will be held Tuesday 19 November 2024 at 6.00 pm, at the Casa della Cultura, in via Borgogna 3, Milan.
The meeting, promoted by Casa della Cultura, CGIL Milano, Archivio del Lavoro, AICVAS (Italian Association of Volunteer Anti-Fascist Fighters of Spain), will see the authors of the collective book published by Milieu and dedicated to the Milanese artist, share insights into his extraordinary life , characterized by an intense political and artistic commitment.
Enigmatic figure, Giandante Dante Pescò, he went through dramatic experiences such as prison, Spanish civil war and deportation, which profoundly influenced his art.
During the event, two works belonging to the Milanese CGIL will also be exhibited: “Libera e Forte” and “Universal Eroe”, works that embody his unique style, suspended between the symbolism of the Expressionist avant-garde and a profound introspection. Describing thethe artist as an “elusive genius” and a militant “pervaded by ideals of freedom and justice”, the art critic Raffaellino De Grada underlined the complexity of Giandante, who thirty years before the leader of the African-American protest, Malcom ” – which for «typo» became Giandante – added the elusive X: synonymous with the desire for anonymity and freedom to escape.
Roberto Farina, writer and curator of artistic exhibitions and author of Giandante’s first biography, will participate in the event scheduled at the Casa della Cultura.
