Sentido Project will generate a unique sound narrative today at the City Theater

Sentido Project, a Slovenian group that fuses elements of jazz, pop and experimental with the art and feeling of dance, music and flamenco singing, will offer a concert today at the Esperanza Iris City Theater, where they will present Echoes, his most recent album.

The band is made up of Urška Centa, composer and lead vocalist, who also develops flamenco choreographies; Primož Fleischman, on saxophone; Arsenije Krstić, on piano; Tadej Kampl, on electric bass, and Nino Mureškić, percussions.

For the members of the ensemble, jazz and flamenco have woven a brotherhood of genres for several decades: they are united by the search for a unique and distinctive musical expression, in which a powerful rhythm, personal vocal expression and improvisation prevail.

Urška Centa, comments in an interview: The central idea of Sentido Project’s music is that the body in its movement is not only a visual expression, but also sound. We unite elements into a harmonious whole where dance is expressed through movement and sound..

Formed in 2019, Sentido Project produces a contemporary hybrid genre, where musical design merges with jazz and pop rhythms, seeking the meeting points between music and flamenco dance.

Since the band emerged in Ljubljana, as a musical group that integrates several elements, its base has been flamenco dance that is linked to music, because the dancer is essentially a percussion instrument, because with his body he creates rhythm and guides. musicians thinking with movement and drawing soundindicated the singer of the group.

The performer learned contemporary dance and classical music, but later in her career music moved away from dance a bit; However, it never disappeared from his thoughts. For me, dance and music are the same, like two sides of the same coin; In recent years I have experienced that sometimes one manifests itself more than the other, but in the end without one the other does not exist, I say this from a choreographic point of view, that is why I have mentioned that the body in its movement is not just an expression visual, but also sound.

When referring to some characteristics of the group, Urška Centa said that their musical project is peculiar because “the electric bass is presented in a role and in a completely different light than what we are used to; Instead of remaining in the background as a supporting element, the bass rises to the forefront, flourishing as an instrument with its own melodic and harmonic function. As we are musical travelers, we continually embark on the exploration of musical traditions and borders are erased a bit; Sentido Project celebrates this interconnection of cultures.

I have to add that the band is not just a musical search project, but a unique sound narrative, through which the members explore the transformative power of music that connects and unites us. Sentido Project is infused with a spirit of innovation; So, the compositions are not driven by traditional flamenco, but by its transformation, its reinterpretation from the perspective and feeling of someone who, although he does not belong to that culture, feels a deep admiration and respect for flamenco as much as jazz. .

At the beginning of the year, the band made successful presentations in Guadalajara, Guanajuato and Querétaro; Now, he returns to the country to present premiere songs that are part of his album in Mexico City. Echoes, among them: Movement mode, Ineffable, Martinete, Memory, Iris, Lunatic y Just walk, original content themes inspired by flamenco, which they have transformed and renewed.

“It is a self-penned debut album. In eight themes, Echoes breathe deeply your difference and freedom from established norms. Three of the songs were created for our first tour in Mexico, which occurred in March of this year, so we presented those songs for the first time at Conjunto Santander, in Guadalajara, where we had an incredible experience and we are very excited to return so that you can discover our art, a piece of Central Europe, the heart.”

The Slovenian group Sentido Project will perform today at 6 p.m. at the Esperanza Iris City Theater (Donceles 36, Centro Historico).
