It shines brightly. The Frenchwoman Indira Ampiot impressed on the night of Thursday to Friday, November 15 during the parade in national costume for the election of Miss Universe 2024. Miss France 2023 was dressed in a dress which paid homage to the French flag and the flagship symbols of the nation.
“I wanted to bring together the symbols of France. The flag, the cockade, the rooster, the beret, all in a sparkling universe,” explained on Instagram the French representative of the annual competition, the 73rd edition of which takes place in Mexico City (Mexico) this Saturday.
Indira Ampiot revealed her outfit this Thursday, November 14 in the evening, through a video shot a few weeks ago in the prestigious Théâtre national de l’Opéra-comique, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris.
Two weeks of intensive work for a dress
Her dress is made up of a bustier decorated with rhinestones in the colors of the French flag, as well as a huge train which again uses blue, white and red. Everything is accompanied by a red beret on which is mounted a cockade, but also the rooster thanks to the immense white feathers which overlook the Miss France.
A sumptuous outfit created by stylist Vanessa Boimond, also from Guadeloupe. Contacted by Indira Ampiot in September, she then spent long hours making this unique piece: “She asked me after completing her sketch. She had a very good working base and I made her suggestions,” explains the 41-year-old designer to Le Parisien.
A specialist in the work of feathers and rhinestones, the Guadeloupean has thus proposed a real piece around the beret. “I wanted to offer work that was different from what had been done before on feathers,” she emphasizes, in reference to Diane Leyre’s outfit last year, which was inspired by the Moulin Rouge.
It then took two weeks of intensive work to make this dress: “The rhinestones are between 4 mm and 15 mm in diameter. It’s work with pliers, stone by stone,” insists the stylist, who also evokes the choice of gold as a tribute to the baroque style. For the train in the colors of the French flag, no less than 42 m of fabric, duchess satin, were necessary.
Guadeloupe in the spotlight
Creator of the Manzèl brand in 2020, Vanessa Boimond already has solid experience with the Misses of her native island: “I have already worked with Clémence Botino (Miss France 2020) for Miss Universe and Miss World, with Ophély Mézino (Miss Guadeloupe 2018) and Morgane Thérésine (Miss Guadeloupe 2016) for Miss World. »
In a much flashier style, her outfit can recall the dress of Axelle Saint-Cirel, a mezzo-soprano who performed the Marseillaise during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Another common point unites the young women: Guadeloupe. The lyric singer’s parents are from the West Indian island, as is Indira Ampiot, who was Miss Guadeloupe 2022 before being crowned nationally.
Six months of preparation for Miss Universe
Indira Ampiot was crowned in December 2022 in Orléans during the 93rd edition of the national beauty contest. Now aged 20, the young woman spent the year preparing for the Miss Universe 2024 election. In particular, she took intensive English courses for six months in London (United Kingdom).
The Frenchwoman is in competition with no less than 126 other candidates from all over the world. During this competition, which takes place over several days, she has already passed several tests, including parades in a swimsuit and an evening dress. She hopes to at least qualify among the 30 finalists, and who knows, maybe take the crown.
Could she succeed Iris Mittenaere and become the third French woman crowned Miss Universe? The answer during the night from Saturday to Sunday during the election which will be broadcast on Paris Première from 2 a.m.
