Strike at the La Fenice Theatre, the premiere of Otello is cancelled

Nothing before Otello at the Fenice in Venice. The show, scheduled for Wednesday 20th, will not take place in light of the strike confirmed by the main trade unions, which has already seen the premiere of Turandot and the premiere of the diptych The Illuminated Factory – Erwartung cancelled.
However, the other four shows scheduled for 23, 26, 29 November and 1 December have been confirmed for the moment.

Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, the first title of the 2024-2025 Opera and Ballet Season of the La Fenice Theater Foundation in Venice, would have seen a new staging with Myung-Whun Chung on the podium of the Orchestra and Chorus of the La Fenice Theater, in continuity with the various Verdi titles that inaugurated the past seasons under his direction.

The staging, signed by director Fabio Ceresa with scenes by Massimo Checchetto, costumes by Claudia Pernigotti, light design by Fabio Barettin and choreographic movements by Mattia Agatiello, was born with the aim of becoming the heritage of the theater and its already very rich repertoire . And if Verdi is certainly the common thread that links the most recent openings of Season in Fenice, so too are the numerous, very interesting debuts on his score: it will be a ‘first time’ for the tenor Francesco Meli this year in the role of Otello, a few years after his debut as Manrico in Trovatore (2011) and his Italian debut in the role of Radames in Aida (2019). Alongside him, two main performers of the highest prestige: the soprano Karah Son in the role of Desdemona and the baritone Luca Micheletti in that of Iago.

Below are the confirmed shows: Saturday 23 November at 3.30 pm (round C); Tuesday 26 November at 7.00 pm (shift D); Friday 29 November at 7.00 pm (shift E); Sunday 1 December at 3.30pm (shift B).
