What do you keep in your backpack?, an alert on the scene about the impact of bullying

For actress and stage director Ginna Narváez, addressing bullying It’s not just an artistic choice.but also a fundamental piece of its own history.

In interview with The Day about his most recent work, What do you keep in your backpack? Narváez explained that this was born from a reflection on what she kept silent about in her youth.

I kept a lot of silence, and that is the motivation behind this production, whose plot explores the most intimate corners of adolescence and its conflicts.

Born in Colombia, the director conceived the project in her native country. However, upon settling in Mexico nine years ago, he understood that the project needed a new approach to deeply connect with national viewers.

I realized that the montage was poorly oriented and I needed to work on it from an emotional management approach.. Thus, he consulted a psychologist specialized in bullying and redesigned the work to talk about aggression, in addition to the silences and emotional burdens that young people face every day.

The backpack, a seemingly ordinary object, becomes the central symbol of the staging. Each student carries more than just school supplies: they carry other people’s dreams and not their own.Narváez added.

Each character has a different story. One carries the pain of having lost one’s mother; another, the pressure of not meeting his family’s expectations. In this context, the stage becomes a space for self-discovery, where contained emotions finally find a channel.

Aimed at children ages 10 and up, the work has proven to be accessible even to the youngest children. We realized that even six-year-old children understood the story perfectly and connected with it.Narváez emphasized, revealing the universality of its themes. Both children and adults are reflected in the plot that does not skimp on honesty, without falling into morals or sentimentality.

Ian and Cora, high school students, harass and mistreat their classmates, especially Zaire, a young man who suffers the most serious consequences of this abuse. However, both characters discover their frustrations and fears, which allows them to process why they abuse each other and, eventually, begin a path of personal transformation.

More than denouncing, the montage sends a warning to educational institutions and adults who manage these environments. Many schools continue to deny the existence of this problem, even though it affects many students.lamented the director.

If you can’t talk to your parents or at school, find someone you trust. There is always someone willing to listen.

Sponsored by Teatro and Mudita Producciones, the work What do you keep in your backpack? It is presented on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. at the Helético theater (1500 Revolución Avenue, Guadalupe Inn neighborhood). The ticket costs 248 pesos and the season ends on December 15.
