Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, aged 21, was elected Miss Universe 2024 this Saturday, November 16 in Mexico City (Mexico) during the 73rd edition of the competition, among 127 competitors. Miss Nigeria and Miss Mexico were respectively crowned first and second runners-up in the competition.
Victoria Kjaer, who is a professional dancer, beat 130 competitors, a record for the competition formerly owned by Donald Trump.
Even if she does not reach the first step of the podium, the Frenchwoman Indira Ampiot achieves a great performance by entering the top 30. The former Miss Guadeloupe 2022 and Miss France 2023 thus equals a result that France has not achieved since. 2021 with Clémence Botino.
The candidates for the crown had been in the Mexican capital for more than two weeks to participate in this election.
National costumes, a capital parade
Before tonight’s ceremony, these 127 beauty queens had completed a series of tests throughout the week, between a parade in national costume and interviews with the jury. Indira Ampiot notably dazzled the competition with her costume paying homage to the symbols of France, flag and cockade in the lead.
Among the new features for 2024, Miss Universe announced the end of the age limit for participants. While previously they had to be a maximum of 28 years old, candidates for the title of Miss Universe could now present themselves regardless of their year of birth, as long as they were of age.
This 73rd edition was also marked by the presence of candidates with children. There were ten of them, including Beatrice Njoya from Malta, aged 40 and mother of three children.
Among the crowd’s favorites was a 28-year-old Venezuelan, Ileana Márquez, mother of a daughter. This educator, model and television presenter came 5th.
Among the 12 semi-finalists, Jennifer Colón, from Puerto Rico, is 36 years old and has three children. Also among them was Logina Salah, a 34-year-old single mother Egyptian model who suffers from vitiligo, an autoimmune disease.
