The demolition once considered of this site located in the Ve district of Paris to build a center to fight cancer supported by the Institut Curie opposed defenders of science and heritage. The latter considered that its destruction would be an attack on the memory of Marie Curie. At the beginning of January, Rima Abdul Malak, then Minister of Culture, put the project on hold. A few weeks later, Rachida Dati, who succeeded him at the ministry, announced that the pavilion would be moved from « a few meters ».

Finally, the government and the Curie Institute announced in April that the building would remain in its original location, « integrated into a new building dedicated to research ». The works « planned include a rehabilitation of the premises and especially an extension as well as an elevation of the Pasteur pavilion and the Sources pavilion of the Institut Curie »noted The Parisian.« It was decided to preserve the facades and the volume of the Pavillon des Sources in the new construction, the costs of which will be borne by the Institut Curie »specifies the ministry.

The preserved pavilion is to become a cultural space for the Curie Museum which will pay homage to the two founders of the Curie Institute, the physicist and chemist Marie Curie (1867-1934) and the doctor Claudius Regaud (1870-1940).
