How does a child perceive the threat of bombing? Steve McQueen is looking for answers to this in his new film “Blitz”. Meeting someone who wants to feel useful as an artist.
You can easily imagine Steve McQueen pulling his team along. The British filmmaker and artist almost never says “I”, everything for him is “we”. The interview about his new film “Blitz” takes place via video link. “This is the world we have been living in since Covid,” he says regretfully, but otherwise he speaks with incredible speed – and passion. That’s certainly the reason why Hans Zimmer, who also wrote the music for McQueen’s film – strings mix with alarm sirens – likes to compose with him in the same room. Is that correct? “Yes,” says McQueen enthusiastically, “that’s a fire hazard, so to speak! There’s experimentation going on.”
