Roma Tre Orchestra brings Puccini’s Messa di Gloria to suburban churches

Roma Tre Orchestra promotes a series of concerts dedicated to one of the greatest Italian opera composers, with the aim of bringing new audiences closer to a repertoire of great intensity and artistic value. With the contribution of the Rome Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, from 30 November to 7 December R3O organizes six free events, in as many churches on the outskirts of Rome, to remember Giacomo Puccini with one of his most famous sacred works.

The Mass of Glory, composed by a young man Giacomo Puccini in 1880, it is one of his first works for choir, soloists and orchestra, in which the melodic and dramatic talent that would make him famous already emerges. The work combines traditional sacred language with theatrical elements, reflecting the composer’s operatic genius.
For this special occasion, Roma Tre Orchestra deploys a rich and varied team of 100 items: a large orchestral formation directed by the young Sieva Borzak, the International Opera Choir under the guidance of Giovanni Mirabile, and a cast of soloists that includes the tenors Charles-Isaac Denys and Artur Sadłoń, supported by the baritones Luca XuHaichen and Li Zheyu.

Also scheduled at the opening is the execution of the “Unfinished” Symphony by Franz Schubert (1822), a work which, with its poignant melodies and suspended character, explores feelings of incompleteness and melancholy, similar to those found in Puccini’s dramatic music. Immediately afterwards, the contrasting spirituality of the Gloria Mass offers an emotional crescendo, moving from Schubert’s intimate reflection to Giacomo Puccini’s joyful and solemn elevation. A combination that highlights the transition from Viennese Romanticism to Italian Lyricism.

Valerio Vicari, Artistic Director of Roma Tre Orchestra, invites the public as follows: “Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria is an intense musical experience and thanks to the Roma Foundation we have managed to make it a gift to the city, with six free concerts in the churches of suburbs of Rome. An initiative that aims to reach new territories, in places of aggregation that belong to everyone, combining artistic heritage and social value. A solemn musical event that projects the Roman public towards the opening of the Jubilee year”.
