The new exhibition of the Federico II Foundation, chaired by Gaetano Galvagno, will be dedicated to Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century and among the greatest of all time. The exhibition is entitled ‘Celebrating Picasso. Masterpieces from the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso in Münster’ and will be set up at the Palazzo Reale in Palermo (Sale Duca di Montalto), and open to the public from Thursday 12 December.
The Federico II Foundation brings an important body of works to Sicily, thanks mainly to the collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso of Münster and to the precious loans of three equally prestigious institutions: the Picasso Museum of Antibes, the Mart, Museum of modern and contemporary art of Trento and Rovereto and the La Nuova Pesa Gallery in Rome, as well as loans from private collections. The exhibition is a journey through paintings, lithographs, linocuts, aquatints, etchings, ceramics, drypoints, extraordinary works in the themes closest to the master. Furthermore, on display, a series of photographs representative of his intimate and working life, taken by David Douglas Duncan, the Maestro’s main photographer.
On Wednesday 11 December, at 10.30, a preview and a press conference will be held in the presence of the president of the Federico II Foundation, Gaetano Galvagno, and, via video link, Olivier Widmaier Picasso, president of the Kunstmuseum, as well as son of Maya Picasso and grandson of the Master, Markus Müller, director of the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso in Münster and curator of the exhibition. Jean Louis Andral, Director of the Picasso Museum in Antibes, will speak in person and Alain Tapié, Conservateur of the Museums of France and Pierluigi Carofano, professor at the University of Siena, will also participate in the presentation.
