Dame Judi Dench turns 90: The Shakespeare Jukebox

Star of the big stages, Oscar winner and boss of James Bond in the cinema: Dame Judi Dench, English national shrine, turns 90.

Light TV evening entertainment rarely gives rise to extensive Shakespeare recitation. But when chat show host Graham Norton had Judi Dench on his BBC show last year, it so happened that Dench, small and glamorous next to a concentrated and confused-looking Arnold Schwarzenegger, recited Shakespeare’s Sonnet 29: “For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings / That then I scorn to change my state with kings.” It sounded as if she had thought it up at that moment. He has a real “Shakespeare jukebox” there, said Norton.
