After the success of the TV series, Pinerolo puts Lidia Poët’s memorabilia on display

Lidia Poët’s memorabilia on display at the Historical Museum of the Cavalry Army in Pinerolo. On the occasion of the broadcast on Netflix of the second season of “La Legge di Lidia Poët”, directed by Matteo Rovere, Letizia Lamartire and Pippo Mezzapesa, the Pinerolese e Valli Tourist Consortium has set up, from Sunday 15 December, an exhibition in the premises in via Giolitti 5 in Pinerolo.

Strong point of the exhibition, a free entry, the toga by Lidia Poet, first female lawyer in Italy, originally from the small municipality of Perrero, in Val Germanasca. Poët was the champion of a more than ten-year battle to obtain, between 1884 and 1920, registration in the Register of Lawyers, but she was also the protagonist of social battles for female emancipation (in 1922 she became the president of the Committee for women’s votes in Turin), she was committed to minors and was the promoter of many activities in the legal and cultural fields.

Also on display are various books that belonged to the woman, enriched by her handwritten notes. And, again, you can admire the dress of a great-granddaughter, which Poët himself had sewn by hand, and the handbags with which she used to go to the theater in Pinerolo (at the Teatro Sociale) with her brother. There are also the cap and the shawl of the Waldensian dress: “A small journey that tells Lidia Poët as a pioneer and first lawyer in Italy, but also as Waldensian woman who has lived our territory intensely” says the president of the Pinerolese and Valleys Tourist Consortium, Rossana Turina.

The display welcomes Turin residents and tourists from 15 December and remains set up until 6 January.

At the same time, the Consortium returns to propose the tour “The denied toga” which takes you to the actual places where Poët lived, starting from the remote village of Traverse, in Perrero, to see his birthplace. A research work that has engaged the Consortium in the search for the descendants of Italy’s first female lawyer. You will also enter the cemetery in San Martino where Poët is buried: she died, aged 93, in 1949. The day also includes a stop at a farmhouse, with a menu offering recipes from the early twentieth century, a stop at the exhibition set up at the Cavalleria Museum and a walk around Pinerolo where Poët used to meet with De Amicis, writer and journalist known for the book “Cuore”, but also a dear friend of Lidia. “The filming of the second season of the series – underlines President Turina finally – also involved two historic homes in our area: Casa Lajolo in Piossasco and the Miradolo Castle in San Secondo di Pinerolo. We hope that this will be a further element of curiosity to come and visit us.”

The second season, which arrived on the platform on October 30th, was immediately successful so much so Netflix announced that the third season will be released.
