The Plurinational Parliamentary Group Sumar has registered in the Congress of Deputies a series of questions about the plundering of the state’s historical and archaeological heritage.

Thus, the training wants to know what measures the Government takes to improve the recovery and protection of the state’s historical and archaeological heritage that has been looted or in danger of being looted.

It also asks if it plans to prepare a report that establishes in a specific and updated manner the number, main locations and types of deposits affected, as well as the historical value of the looting committed in a significant period of time.

Sumar also urges the Government to explain whether it handles any specific data or set of significant data that allows us to know with certainty or some depth whether crimes of this type have increased, decreased or remain stable in recent years.

“Does the Government consider that the different units and groups dedicated to the prosecution of this type of crimes in the State Security Forces and Bodies have both the staffing and the material means necessary to carry out their work in the most efficient manner? adequate?”, questions the parliamentary group.

For Sumar, one of the main problems of crimes against archaeological heritage is that investigators “can know the origin of the looted piece but not its place of origin.”

At this point, he highlights that, according to the report ‘The Criminal Investigation of Archaeological Looting’ by a member of the Civil Guard José Antonio Guasch Galindo, “those who dedicate themselves to collecting terrestrial or aquatic objects and pieces are not only simple amateurs of archaeology, “but they are also organized groups that are specifically dedicated to the plundering of archaeological sites for their own economic benefit.”

Despite this, Sumar warns that “it is very difficult to find detailed reports that assess as a whole the evolution of the different investigations carried out, the scope and evolution, both numerically and in the importance and quality of the historical heritage affected. “.
