“Progetto Etruschi in Fiumicino is a showcase of Italian beauty”

“Today is an important day, Aeroporti di Roma confirms itself as an airport open to the world of culture, three works from the Valle Giulia Museum are here. It is a stage in a journey that began a while ago, that of bringing so much beauty , so much cultural and artistic richness that our territory, our country is able to express here at the Airport too”. Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, said this on the sidelines of the presentation of ‘Etruscans for eternity’, an exhibition inaugurated at Terminal 1 in Fiumicino.

“There are many international travellers, especially international ones who frequent this airport, up to 180,000 people a day in the peak periods. We want to seize the opportunity to be a showcase of Italian beauty. So it is an important intention that also wants to see the ‘airport as a real place, as well as a destination, a part of the journey and a great opportunity to receive messages or culture”. “This is a stage in a journey because it is a journey that began some time ago with, I only quote, the statues of the Ostia Antica archaeological park that adorn the path towards the new Pier A, what we would like with President Mattarella in May 2022” , continues Troncone.

“And it also continues with contemporary art, art which is somewhat widespread and which we are also trying to inject almost into the genesis of the new airport to come. Today, however, there is an element of novelty: we are bringing Etruscan art which was not represented here, which deserves without a doubt to be shown. We do it in the Arrivals area more than in the Departures, so it will be the passengers who disembark who will have the opportunity to see a very first element of what they will then see. And it is also a novel event, because it speaks precisely of Etruscan art, also represented somewhat at the Lazio level. So it is not just beauty that can be found here in the city of Rome. The entire Lazio region can really say a lot.”

“The works exhibited here at Fiumicino Airport were chosen through dialogue and analysis also with those responsible for the scientific part of the Valle Giulia Museum. We chose them because they are highly representative, and because they are also quite large in size, therefore they can actually be grasped by a traveler who is perhaps passing through. They are works rich in content, myth, messages, stories of ancient Etruria, of ancient Rome, therefore they represent the best choice for this purpose”, concludes Troncone.

“There are other projects in the pipeline, which will instead see Terminal 3 as the protagonist, projects which among other things are being discussed with the Villa Giulia Museum in cooperation with the Ostia Antica archaeological park. So this also becomes a bit of a laboratory , a humus if I may say so, for cooperation precisely on the artistic front”.
