The Teatro Real celebrates its annual gala with a marked Spanish accent

He Royal Theater has held its sixth annual gala which, under the title ‘Echoes of the Soul’ has brought together the soprano on its stage Sabina Puertolas accompanied by the pianist Ruben Fernandez Aguirrey of the guitarist Pablo Sainz-Villegas. In the recital they performed works by Enrique Granados, Isaac Albéniz, Francisco Tárrega, Emilio Arrieta, Jesús Guridi and Amadeo Vives.

This meeting, a prelude to the Christmas holidays, has had a marked Spanish accent, both by its performers and by the composers chosen for the program, from which some of the pages most linked to culture, evocative of landscapes and customs, have been selected. , always lodged in the memory of the soul.

The guitarist Pablo Sainz-Villegas opened the concert with the best known of the Spanish Dances, ‘Andaluza’, by Enrique Granados. It would be followed later by ‘Torre Bermeja’, from Twelve Characteristic Pieces, and ‘Asturias’, from the Spanish Suite, both by Isaac Albenizto end with Memories of the Alhambra and the Great Concert Jota, by Francisco Tarregawhich would give way to the second part of the concert, starring the soprano Sabina Puertolasaccompanied by the pianist Ruben Fernandez Aguirre.

Pablo Sainz-Villegasrecognized by some as the successor of Andrés Segovia, is one of the great reference soloists in the world of guitar. He has been the first guitarist to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall since Andrés Segovia in 1983, the first to play at the Berliner Philharmoniker’s New Year’s Concert since 1983, the first to play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2001, and He has participated in well-known world premieres, such as the first work written for guitar by John Williams.

Sabina Puertolasone of our most international sopranos, is also a reference artist at the Teatro Real, not only for her successes on stage – where she has performed with great critical acclaim, in Rodelinda (2017), Idomeneo, L’elisir d’ amore (2019) and Viva la mamma!, Partenope (2021), Achille in Sciro and Il Turco in Italia (2023) -, but for being linked to the projects of internationalization of the institution – he was the leading voice in the Real’s first concert at Carnegie Hall in New York – and training – he teaches master classes for the young singers of the Crescendo program.
