Oodi architects won the invitational competition to design a concert hall for the Arktisk Filharmoni orchestra from Tromsø and new gallery spaces for the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum

Helsinki-based Arkitehtoimisto Ala is designing a new concert hall and art museum in Tromsø.

Central library The proposal of the architects who designed Oodi for the world’s northernmost full-scale symphonic music concert hall and the world’s northernmost art museum has won in Norway.

The Helsinki-based Arkkitehtoimisto Ala and its working groups participated in an invitational competition, where a new concert hall was designed for the Arktisk Filharmoni orchestra from Tromsø and new gallery spaces for the local Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum.

The concert hall and the museum, as well as the cultural center built around them, are located as part of the new cultural quarter being formed in the center of Tromssa.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the local Norwegian Nordic Office of Architecture.

In the year Architects of the Finnish office established in 2005 Juho Grönholm, Antti Nousjoki and Samuli Woolston have been successful in Norway before, as they won the design competition for Kristiansand’s theater and concert hall Kilde twenty years ago. At that time, the team also included an architect Janne Teräsvirta.

Norway’s southernmost theater and concert hall was completed in 2012.

The Tromsø project is estimated to be completed in 2029.

Helsinki In addition to the central library Oodi, the Finnish office has designed, among other things, the expansion of Helsinki-Vantaa airport, the renovation and expansion of Kuopio’s city theater and the new city theater of Lappeenranta.

It is currently working on a new theater to be built in connection with Espoo’s cultural center.
