Mylène Farmer refused to sing for the opening ceremony of the Olympics

The director of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games quickly became disenchanted. While big names in music, such as Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura, and Céline Dion, participated in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, a big name in French song was missing: Mylène Farmer. In the documentary The Great Seine posted online on December 19 on the official website of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Thomas Jolly revealed that he had asked Mylène Farmer to participate in the opening ceremony. A proposal that the latter chose at the time to decline. « My great French singer was Mylène Farmer. But she was not available. Following these statements, the composer of the anthem of the 2024 Olympic Games Victor Le Masne suggested that this was part of the game: « We’re not going to lie, of course, it’s the Olympics. Despite the refusal, Thomas Jolly still chose to pay tribute to Mylène Farmer during the opening ceremony. Indeed, in one of the tables devoted to dance, viewers were able to hear a 1991 remix of one of the singer’s most popular songs: Disenchanted.

Mylène Farmer does not seem to be an isolated case in these approaches. The singer Gims had in fact revealed in an interview given to Cinema TV having refused to participate in the opening ceremony. « I could have done it, but it wasn’t my will », he explained, before adding that he could not « not be everywhere ».

After the refusals, the disappointments. On social networks, many singers did not hide their disappointment at not having received proposals from the director.
