Farewell to the literary critic Walter Pedullà

Walter Pedulla’ died in Rome at the age of 94, after a long illness, essayist, literary critic and journalist, professor emeritus of La Sapienza University of Rome, where he was a long-time professor of the history of modern and contemporary Italian literature, and president of Rai between 1992 and ’93.
Pedulla’ was born in Siderno in 1930: after graduating in Literature in Messina, he moved to Rome where he was assistant to Giacomo De Benedetti. A professional journalist from 1962 to 1980, he was a literary critic for the newspaper ‘Avanti!’ from 1961 to 1993. He also founded and directed cultural magazines such as ‘L’Illuminista’ and ‘Il Caffe’ illustrata’.

“The news of Walter Pedullà’s passing deeply saddens all of Rai, in memory of the great passion with which he worked from 1977 to 1992 on the Board of Directors of the Public Service, of which he was also president from 1992 to 1993. He disappears with him a man of great culture, a “maestro” of twentieth-century criticism with a ‘high’ vision of the role of Rai, at whose service it has always put its knowledge and experience.
