“Taming Unruliness” at the Deutsches Theater Berlin

William Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew” is quite an imposition. At least for the protagonist, a young woman named Katharina, who is more feared than revered because of her quick wit and autonomy in the not particularly progressive marriage market. Her father literally wants to sell her. And for this purpose, a particularly coarse husband is found who uses the most brutal means to “tame the unruly”. Until a completely broken Katharina turns out to be the most submissive woman of all.
