Italian fashion designer Rosita Missoni has died at the age of 93, reports news agency AFP.
Rosita Missoni founded the fashion house Missoni with her husband Ottavio Missonin (1921–2013) with in 1953.
A representative of the fashion house says that Rosita Missoni died on Thursday at her home in Sumirago, Northern Italy.
Missoni is especially known for its colorful and zigzag patterned knitwear, which attracted the attention of the fashion world in the 1970s. Missoni’s creations have been seen on the pages of the world’s most famous fashion magazines, such as Vogue and Elle.
Missoni also manufactures home textiles, which are also sold in Finland.
Rosita Missoni was the creative director of the fashion house’s women’s collection until the end of the 1990s, after which her daughter Angela moved to the task. Later, Rosita Missoni continued as the creative director responsible for the company’s home products.
The Missons faced a family tragedy in 2013, when the family’s son Vittorio died in a plane crash off the coast of Venezuela. Months later, the father of the family, Ottavio, died at the age of 92.
