What will we read in 2025? From Gunter Grass to the Pope’s biography

2025 is full of literary proposals: from an unpublished book by Günter Grass to the new books by Jone Fosse, Olga Tokarczuky and James Ellroy, passing through the autobiography of Pope Francis, or the heartbreaking testimony of Gisèle Pelicot’s daughter.

Grass, Fosse or Ellroy: the most awaited fiction

‘The Statue’ is one of this year’s literary surprises, it is an unpublished short novel by Günter Grass dedicated to Uta of Naumburg, considered the most beautiful woman of the Middle Ages and accused of witchcraft. The writer found a statue of this woman during one of his travels through the GDR – idealized by Nazism and who served as inspiration for the stepmother of Disney’s Snow White – and decides to start a conversation with her.

Another Nobel Prize winner, Jone Fossebrings together for the first time in Spanish short texts written between 1981 and 2013, some autobiographical, such as his first publication, “Él”, or the short novel “Y ya puede venir el perro”. The book is titled “Childhood Scenes“.

2025 will also be the year of “Land of Empusas“, the new work of the Polish Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk“The Book of Sisters,” by Amélie Nothomb, and “The Wolves of the Forest of Eternity,” by Karl Ove Knausgård, all from Anagrama.

James Ellroy riunisce in ‘The Seducers’ the kidnapping of a B-movie star and the discovery of Marilyn Monroe’s lifeless body; While Ildefonso Falcones, continues his saga of ‘The Cathedral of the Sea’ (11 million readers) with ‘In love and in war’, a novel set in Naples in 1442, by Arnau Estanyol, nephew of the first protagonist.

Literature in Spanish will also have titles such as “El plan maestro”, in which Javier Sierra narrates a secret conspiracy that has shaped history through the most iconic works of art; ‘Los nombres de Feliza’ by Juan Gabriel Vásquez, and ‘Animales difícil (Seix Barral) the closing of the Bruna Huskyy tetralogy by Rosa Montero.

I2025 will also be the year of the new novel of the popular Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, “Dream Count“, and the new title of Woody Allen, “Zero Gravity”, and by Fernando Aramburu, “Fallen Man”.

Black harvest and anniversaries

In 2025, the detective novel genre will feature long-awaited titles such as “A Promising Future” by Pierre Lemaitre; ‘The Drowned’ by Benjamin Black; “Bronze Dreams” by Camilla Läckberg or “I’ll Find You” by Harlan Coben.

Biographies and testimonials for 2025

If 2024 was the year of the horror of the trial Gisele Pelicot against her attackers, 2025 will be the year her daughter Caroline Darian will testify, with “And I stopped calling you dad.” THEThe book is written with exceptional courage in which she explains the impossible dilemma of being the daughter of the victim and the attacker.

Other testimonies and biographies of 2025 will be the one written by Bill Gates, who narrates his childhood and his curiosity about technology in ‘Source Code’; his ex-wife Melinda Gates will publish ‘The Next Day’, a book about the changes that occurred in the last years of his life; and Zadie Smith will publish a collection of essays.
