Singer Pomme says she did not authorize Kanye West to sample one of her songs for his next album

The rumor of collaboration was quickly denied. In a post published on Instagram this Monday, singer Pomme claims not to have given her consent for her title “Soleil, soleil” to be sampled by Kanye West.

For several days, a video of the controversial American rapper has been circulating on social networks. While the latter finalizes the preparation of his next album “Bully”, we could see him dancing to a sample of “Soleil, soleil”, a song that Pomme released in 2019 for his album “Les Faults”. The video was viewed 1.4 million times on January 6.

“Deep disagreement with political positions”

“I do not know the source of the video and audio content circulating these days on social networks, but I never gave my consent for the use of this sample for reasons which seem obvious to me, being deeply disagreement with the political positions of this artist whom I have greatly admired in the past,” writes Pomme in this post published in French and English. “It’s sometimes difficult to give up on certain opportunities, but I prefer to respect my deep values,” she adds.

Long considered one of the major figures of the American hip-hop scene, Kanye West has been at the heart of numerous controversies for several years. In particular, he increased the number of anti-Semitic remarks and even described slavery as a “choice” made by black people. He also supported Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016, before announcing that he himself wanted to run in the US presidential election in 2020.

For her part, Claire Pommet, her real name, is known for her commitments to the rights of women and LGBT people.

Kanye West has not yet commented on the cover of “Soleil, soleil”.
