“I’m starting again, at a different point,” is how the new novel by Potsdam author Julia Schoch begins. So she, the first-person narrator, has already presented it once. Something has already been said, is in flux, perhaps it has stalled. “I’ll start again.” Maybe it will be easier from here; perhaps with a new attitude, with new courage, greater freedom. It’s a wonderful introduction. Not only because he sees himself as part of an ongoing process, but because he means the flowing life itself, which is always already there, in which at best a new point is marked, perhaps even a noticeable individual break.
