“Extra” on OCS: a subtle and funny series on sexual assistants for the disabled

It was one of our favorites at the last Séries Mania festival. “Extra”, a short series in ten episodes by Jonathan Hazan and Matthieu Bernard, is visible on OCS since Tuesday January 7, via the Canal + platform. Carried by the luminous Anne Girouard, it deals with humor with the rarely discussed and still taboo profession of sexual assistant for disabled people.

This profession, authorized in certain countries such as Switzerland, is prohibited in France, where it is considered prostitution. In this fiction, direction Vienne (Isère), not far from Swiss lands. Catherine is married there to Antoine, who runs the family mattress business she inherited. She is a housewife devoted to her husband, her son Anatole, a high school student, and also takes care of her brother, Xavier, a paraplegic. She is also choir director in an inclusive choir where some people have disabilities. One day, she despite herself witnesses a sexual encounter between the secretary of her choir, in a wheelchair, and her boyfriend. That’s the trigger.

To bring her group to excellence, she tells herself that her singers must be sexually fulfilled. She makes it her mission to help others find pleasure by becoming a sex assistant. Soon, her whole world will be turned upside down, and her own freedom that she will discover, shattering her convictions.
