Queen Sofía presides over the ‘Stradivarius por la dana’ concert at the Teatro Real on Monday

He Royal Theater hosts the concert this Monday, January 20 charity ‘Stradivarius for dana’ to contribute to the recovery of the cultural and musical fabric of the affected areas.

It is organized jointly by National Heritage and the Royal Theater and It will be chaired by Queen Sofía. The presence of the Minister of Culture is also planned, Ernest Urtasun; the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo; the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Angel Victor Torres; the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; mayors of the affected areas and the president of the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community, Daniela González.

As stated by the Teatro Real, The proceeds will be allocated mainly to the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community, but will also cover territories outside this community..

In this sense, solidarity with those affected by the damage has led National Heritage to move its Palatine Quartet to the Royal Theater, for the first time in this century, since the instruments have not left the premises of the Royal Palace since 1996.

The concert will be starred by the Casals Quartetwhich is currently made up of Vera Martinez y Abel Thomas (violins), Cristina Cordero (viola) and Arnau Thomas (cello). In his 27 years of activity he had the privilege of playing 18 times with the palace instruments.

Thus, he will perform pieces from the score ‘The Art of Fugue’, the last, mysterious and unfinished work of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), without specific assignment of instruments. As reported by the Teatro Real, the four voices are adapted for string quartet, “achieving the clarity, cohesion and intimacy necessary to face the counterpoint of the fourteen fugues and four canons like an ethereal labyrinth, a transcendent perpetuum mobile.”

Likewise, he has pointed out that the interpretation of the music will reach the public through the four instruments made by Antonio Stradivari (1644-1737) that the Royal Palace treasures, whose quality and uniqueness will make the concert a unique evening.
