Palermo, Mattarella surprises at De Amicis school: children were victims of racism

“Music, as well as initiatives on books and culture, are the vehicle of life, of coexistence, of openness, of personal and collective growth. This is what you are doing in this school. For me it is truly a source of satisfaction to be here and congratulate you.” These are the words of the Head of State Sergio Mattarella who met i children of the De Amicis school.

Last November the children of fifth grade were insulted while performing in front of the Feltrinelli, dressed in traditional African clothing. “Every year I go to a school for the opening of the school year, but it is not often that I go on other occasions. I am very happy to be here this morning – says Mattarella – And to thank you for what you do. I thank your teachers for what they transmit to you and how they guide you in cultural growth”.

Teaching is not an easy, demanding undertaking. But for teachers it is a great satisfaction to help children grow towards the future”.
