Rural Future: Yle will cut around 300

Yleisradio the change negotiations will lead to the reduction of approximately 300 jobs, says The Future of the Countryside. At the start of the negotiations, a maximum of 375 was announced as the reduction need.

According to the newspaper’s information, the reductions are evenly distributed across different parts of the company, including regions. Yle does not close any channels due to cost-saving measures.

According to the information received by MT, the editor-in-chief of Yle’s news and current affairs department Riikka Räisänen is transitioning to head of Yle’s regions.

About 1,800 Yle employees have been involved in the change negotiations that ended on Wednesday.

The Future of the Countryside Yle is scheduled to announce the results of the change negotiations on Friday.

The change negotiations are connected to Yle’s savings program, which was agreed upon in the parliamentary working group. After long and difficult negotiations, the parliamentary parties reached an agreement that Yle will save a total of 66 million euros in the years 2025–2027.

The working group decided that Yle’s funding will not undergo a statutory index check in the years 2025–2027, which means a cut of around 47 million euros.

Negotiations starting in November, Yle’s CEO Merja Ylä-Anttila stated that the savings will inevitably affect the contents offered by Yle. In the first phase, Yle is seeking savings of around 50 million euros this year and next year.

In the second year, Yle had just under 3,000 permanent employees.
