The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez plans to attend the gala the 39th edition of the Goya Awards which will be held on February 8 in Granada, as socialist sources have confirmed to Europa Press.
It would not be the first time that Sánchez attends the event that celebrates Spanish cinema, since In recent years it has attended the recent editions held in Valladolid (2024), Seville (2023) and Valencia (2022). His only ‘absence’ was in 2021, when the Goyas were held in a hybrid way due to the pandemic.
Sánchez attended the Goya Awards for the first time as President of the Government in 2020at the gala held at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace in Málaga. His presence meant the return of presidential visits to the event.
The presence of politicians has been common in previous galas, since the Film Academy extends invitations to political groups with parliamentary representation. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was the first President of the Government to attend the Gala, in 2005. Later, Mariano Rajoy succeeded him in La Moncloa, but he did not attend on any occasion while he was President of the Government.
