Poland buys the manuscript of a chopin ballad, rare treasure

Warsaw. Culture authorities of Poland announced that the manuscript of a ballad of Frédéric Chopin was acquired, score whose exhibition will coincide with the prestigious piano contest that bears his name and will be held this year in Warsaw.

The Ballad Manuscript no. 4 In FA Minor was in private hands before Poland reached an agreement to acquire it last year.

It is a treasuredeclared the Polish Minister of Culture, Hanna Wroblewska, to the press at the Chopin Institute of Warsaw, and added that the original manuscripts of the composer are Very rare.

The purchase was made with public funds, but the Institute did not disclose the price of this four -page manuscript due to a clause in the contract.

The manuscript is in excellent condition. It was preserved for more than one centenary in optimal conditionssaid Seweryn Kuter, conservative of the Chopin Institute.

Born in 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, near the Polish capital, Frédéric Chopin fled his country just before the 1830 uprising against the occupation forces of the Russian Empire.

The composer later lived in Vienna before settling in Paris, where he died at age 39.

His music remains a symbol of Poland’s long struggle for freedom.

The score bought by Poland will be the subject of an exhibition in Warsaw that will begin in June and will run until the end of October, coinciding with the 19 International Piano Chopin piano competition.

Organized every five years since 1927, this contest congregates pianists from around the world.
