UMK could have brought the long-awaited breakthrough to One Morning Left – Then the worst happened

The goal is a breakthrough to a higher level, often abroad. It requires time, effort, patience and financial investment.

Metal band One Morning Left was one such band. Participating in the UMK singing competition could have finally been a step towards a breakthrough for her, but on wednesday it all ended shortly.

The reason is the singer Mika to Lahti the accusations that he had communicated with a minor between 2007 and 2010 in the Irc gallery. Lahti has denied the accusations.

At the moment, it is not known what has really happened behind the scenes, as all parties have been silent on the matter.

A big one One Morning Left, founded by Lahti, only rose to public awareness with UMK, but before that it had time to operate for three decades.

The band’s history has included numerous member changes. In total, twenty musicians have played in it over the years.

The band’s stated aim has been to break through abroad since the next few years.

Much One Morning Left managed to do the right thing in terms of strategy. Over the years, it developed a distinctive style, learned to perform and gained popularity, especially in Central Europe. In addition to Germany, the band has toured in Japan, Iceland, the Baltic countries and Russia, among others.

The latest label has been Germany’s Arising Empire, who announced yesterday HS:lle to stop marketing the band. Typical of the current band business, the band members have also been members of the board of One Morning Left oy., which ran the business.

The hope was that with UMK, the band members would be able to leave their day jobs.

The company’s financial situation has been weak, but not catastrophic: in 2021, the turnover was eight thousand euros and the profit four thousand euros at a loss. The following year, the turnover rose to 20,000 euros, but the profit fell by 12,000 euros to zero.

In 2023, the turnover was more or less unchanged, but the result rose to EUR 6,000 plus. Last year, the turnover fell again and the result was again in the red.

The numbers would be poor for a normal company, but normal for a Finnish export band. It is typical that a band aiming for the world tries to get the income from a domestic gig that it has to pay for its place as a warm-up act for a band bigger than itself.

Still, the situation must have been difficult for the band members. Chaotic fresh according to the story, the hope was that with UMK the members would be able to leave their day jobs and focus on music full time.

Paras the point of comparison for One Morning Left would be the 2021 Eurovision representative Blind Channel, with whom it has also been on a joint tour.

The background of Blind Channel is the same type of business model, but the resources for world conquest are of a different class. In 2021, the turnover of the Blood Bros company was almost 400,000 euros and the operating profit was 77,000. The following year, the figures were, the turnover rose to 1.2 million and the operating profit to about 240,000 euros.

So the numbers are many times higher than One Morning Left.

Easy world conquest has not been for Blind Channel either. A few months ago, the band went on hiatus “so as not to have to stop”, as the other soloist of the band said Joel Hokka told HS in October. During the break, we plan to think about what the band’s DNA is.
