The Oscar Academy will pay tribute to the victims of Los Angeles fires

While forest fires have ravaged the city of Los Angeles for several weeks, the Academy of Oscars has sent a letter to all its members, to tell them that it will pay tribute to the City of Angels and its inhabitants victims of the gigantic fire. This letter was sent before the announcement of the Oscar appointments Thursday, January 23 and promises « Powerful musical moments that connect the rich history of cinema to its daring and inspiring future ».

« We will honor Los Angeles as the city of dreams, highlighting its beauty and its resilience, as well as its role as a lighthouse for filmmakers and creative visionaries for more than a century »wrote the president of the Bill Kramer Academy as well as President Janet Yang. Before continuing : « We will reflect on recent events while emphasizing the strength, creativity and optimism that define Los Angeles and our industry. »

The Academy has also announced that the event would move away from live interpretations and focus more on songwriters. Indeed before, the performers received more merit than the songwriters appointed in the category of the best original song.« This year, the best original song category will no longer be presented live, but will focus on the songwriters. We will celebrate their artistic talent through the personal reflections of the teams that give life to these songs. All this, and much more, will allow you to discover the stories and the inspiration that hide behind the nominees for this year, underlined the editors of the Academy.
