The house of the commander of the Auschwitz camp, portrayed in the area of ​​interest, soon opened to the public

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the release of the Auschwitz camp, the main place of the famous feature film will open its doors to the public.

Released in 2024, the film The area of ​​interest was a great success with the public despite his delicate subject. The story follows the commander of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Rudolf Höss. He strives to build a dream life a few meters from the extermination camp which escapes glaring and incessant cries.

While the release of the Auschwitz camp will be commemorated on January 27, on the occasion of the 80e Birthday, the current management of the site is preparing to open to visitors the real house of Rudolf Höss, who was until recently lived by a Polish family.

For filming, director Jonathan Glazer had invested another villa near the camp, reproducing the sets identically. In the months that followed the shooting of the film, the real house was acquired by the Extremism Project Counter, an American NGO based in New York which has been trying to fight extremism since 2014.

« The idea behind this project is to create something that does not exist, a world center for the fight against extremism in the house of one of the worst extremists and anti -Semites that have ever existed », explained Hans Jakob Schindler, principal director of the project, in CNN. The NGO plans will therefore give a new center to their organization, but also to open this house long closed to the public.
