Jewelry and objects in stolen gold in a museum in the Netherlands, robbed with explosives

A gold helmet weighing a kilo and several jewelry from Romania and loaned for a temporary exhibition, have disappeared.

It is a theft of rare violence. During the night from Friday to Saturday, around 3:45 a.m., the Drenthe Regional Museum in Assen was robbed to the explosive. Several gold objects were stolen, they came from Romania and were loaned during a temporary exhibition. Three gold bracelets from the surroundings of the ancient city of Sarmizégetusus and dating from 50 BC, as well as a golden helmet (a kilo of pure gold), usually exhibited at the National Museum of Romania, have disappeared.

They were presented to the Dntres Museum d’Assen, in the north of the Netherlands, during a temporary exhibition dedicated to the Daccs, ancient people who lived in the south-east of Europe. Nearly 650 objects loaned by 18 Romanian museums were on display, some of which go back to two millennia before our era.

Dutch and Romanian fonts do not exclude that it is a very targeted burglary with the golden helmet as the main target. According to De Telegraaf the analysis of the images of museum cameras and additional research on suspicious movements provided the police on the trips of the three authors. Police assume that they fled to Germany. « But there are other options »a police spokesperson said in the Dutch daily.

« It is a dark day for the Dntres Museum d’Assen and the National Museum of History of Romania in Bucharest. We are deeply shocked by the events that occurred last night at the museum. In 170 years of existence, no such serious incident has occurred. We are also very sad for our colleagues in Romania. Police investigate, we await the results of the investigation »said Harry Tupan, the museum director in a statement published on Saturday January 25. The statement specifies that no one was injured by the explosion but that the museum premises were damaged.

According to the Dutch daily newspaper, a Dutch entrepreneur from Bucharest, Alex Van Breemen, offers Monday the sum of 100,000 euros for the person who will lead to the restitution of stolen treasures at the museum. On its website, the Dutch police ask residents close to the museum to communicate to them any useful information for the survey.
