Joan Manuel Serrat, Antonio de Sancha prize of the editors for “being an example of personal and intellectual honesty”

The Board of Directors of the Association of Editors of Madrid (AEM) has awarded the Antonio de Sancha 2025 award in its 29th edition to Joan Manuel Serrat “for being an example of personal and intellectual honesty, and in recognition of his work as part of the sentimental education of several generations of Spaniards and Americans. ”

With this award, the AEM wants to recognize a work composed of 32 albums, 300 songs and almost six decades of musical experience and “the contribution of their musical versions of the work of great poets in Spanish and Catalan, who managed to popularize as never the poetry Among millions of people on either side of the Atlantic. ”

In addition to “their original letters, also in both languages, which have an extraordinary expressive capacity, full of simple beauty, which manages to move us for their proximity to those little things that, as Miguel Hernández wrote and sang Serrat, are the ones that have to do with With love, with death and life. ”

After knowing the ruling, the singer -songwriter has been “very grateful” and has highlighted the special meaning that this award has been granted by the publishers since, as he explained, “put music to others verses, especially when you cannot exchange Ideas with the poet, it is not an easy task. ”

“The poet does not always appreciate the disseminating importance and the value of music as a support of the idea already, the musician does not find the best way to accompany the words. If I dared to put them in hand, always with respect, to beautiful verses Of great or small poets, it was because there, in those verses there was a song that I liked, “said the singer -songwriter in a statement sent by the editors.
