The Circle of Fine Arts exposes the landscape treatment of dimitris pikionis about accesses to the acropolis of Athens

Fine Arts Circle – Casa Europe This Thursday has presented an exhibition on Dimitris pikionis (1887-1968), central figure for the Greek culture of the twentieth century, which deepens the life and work of the Greek architect, who was in contact with modern European painting through his studies in painting and sculpture in Munich and, later, later , in Paris.

The project highlights its role in the introduction of the avant -garde in Greece from the creation of the magazine To trito mati (the third eye), A importance of importance in the 30s for aesthetic theory and artistic practices.

The exhibition ‘Dimitris pikionis. An aesthetic topography ‘curated by Juan Miguel Hernández León and Covadonga Blasco, is starring Pikionis’s landscape treatment about accesses to the acropolis of Athens, full of pictorial references in their pavements and whose works ended, after a long and complex construction process in 1958 .

The exhibition exhibits how the architect merged modernity with tradition, through the study of the creative process of six of his most recognized architectural works and that reveal the unique vision of the landscape as an art work. Among the images, drawings and planes of the architect are the author’s own words through his thoughts, reflections and autobiographical notes.

Hernández León has highlighted during the presentation that one of Pikionis’s objectives was “Work to propose an identity issue regarding art, something that makes it very contemporary. Treat the Hellenistic without giving up the modern scope. ”

The exhibition, organized together with the Benaki Museum in Athens and in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Athens, the Italian isituto di Cultura Di Madrid and the Greece Embassy in Spain, is a production of the Circle of Fine Arts that starts from an investigation about the work and texts of Dimitris Pikionis.

The project includes a large topographic model that teaches the complete intervention of the Acropolis Access Rehabilitation project and an unpublished interview with Agni Pikioni (Athens, 1941), daughter of the architect, who dedicated himself, for years, to the investigation, The study and promotion of his father’s work.

The exhibition is part of one of the programming lines of the circle this season, dedicated to the celebration of the centenary of the surrealist manifesto, and which includes, among other activities, the exhibitions dedicated to Dalí and Max Ernst.
