Following the line of the award -winning work, Bea Lema has designed for the commemorative day a poster that, according to the Ministry, “risks in the formal, with textures, compositions and with the embroidery as the main artistic technique, which has become its sign identity “.
On the creation process, the author explained that she began “experimenting and looking for ideas through the sketches in the notebook.” “When I arrived in an image that convinced me, I decided to capture it with the embroidery technique, which is something that I have been exploring for a long time.” “Next, I chose the color palette, applying different fabrics and began to embroider. For my hair I opted for a fluorine thread that seemed to me an interesting material to work with and, finally, the design and layout part came, “he added.
The poster has occurred in all the languages of the State and is available for download for free for use in libraries, in classrooms or in particular, in the theme portal that the Ministry of Culture enables with all the information related to the Comic day celebration 2025. Likewise, the General Directorate of the Book, Comic and Reading is working on a commemorative agenda of activities that will be developed throughout the national territory around the event and that starts today with the presentation of this poster.
In 2022, the Government declared the celebration, every March 17, the day of comic and comic . The date was chosen in tribute to the start day in 1917 of the publication of the Journal of Comics ‘TBO’, which popularized the editorial model expansively in Spain and gave name to the phenomenon itself.
It is one of the initiatives with which the Ministry of Culture is working to strengthen the comic sector in recent years. They also highlight, among others, the recent presence of Spain as a country focus at the 52nd Angulema Comic Festivalwhich was attended by more than 100 professionals from all areas (creators, editors, researchers, translators …); or the development of a new line of specific aids for comic creators.
