‘The algorithm of equality’, Ai and rights in Ruben Ruben Ruben essay

“The algorithm of equality. Artificial intelligence, person rights, growth of businesses” is the title of the new volume edited by Ruben Rachase, scholar and professor of information law at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan, published by Franco Angeli. A collection of essays that wants to be a useful contribution to the very urgent question of the progress of artificial intelligence as a tool to combat discrimination and they are of a new global social cohesion. Each of the co -authors was asked to carry out reflections relating to their own field of professional, corporate and institutional commitment, following a constructive and responsible approach to the use of AI, in order to show how algorithms can harmonize with the fundamental values and rights of man.

Ai is producing a sort of jet lag, of misalignment between the times of technological innovation and those of human actions. To avoid getting lost behind the flattering of artifact cosmas, risking to fall into the trap of the anesthesia of reason, it becomes indispensable to open the virtual casket of the algorithm and carefully scrutinize the elements that inspire its functioning. The subtle thread that binds the pages of this publication is precisely their traceability to the values of equality, inclusion, accessibility, sustainability in the unfolding of artificial intelligence. A sort of ‘truth operation’ on the AI, to reinvigorate the democracy of the network, removing the spectrum of digital totalitarianism.

The preface of the volume was drawn up by the life senator Liliana Segre, who highlighted the importance of a better use of the AII to counter the spread of hatred speeches on the net and, in general, of any form of discrimination. The goal indicated by her is “[…]to build a more inclusive, civil and democratic digital and social future and thus transform the web into a safe space, of training and information interaction “.
