The work The Don Don Quixote invites the child public to rediscover the transformative power of the book

With the work The Don Don Quixote, The company Titirimundi puppets, formed by Horacio Merchan and Rosina Larrañaga, invites the child public to rediscover the transforming power of the books through the universal classic of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

This assembly, aimed at children seven years and older, is presented on Saturdays in the La Grotto forum of the Hellenic Cultural Center. The staging, written, directed and interpreted by Larrañaga and Merchan, takes two emblematic passages of The ingenious Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha: the adventure with the lions y The altarpiece of Master Pedro.

The puppets adapted the text of Miguel de Cervantes because they seemed interesting to take it to the entire public, for being a story that explores human nature, friendship and principles. The work is beautiful, but difficult to read, so we create a fun and accessible adaptation with simple language and many images and movementsMerchan said The day.

On adaptation, Rosina Larrañaga explained: “We take the episodes of The lions y The altarpiece of Master Pedro for being fun and conducive stories for children; They are nice and exciting. ”

In this production, Don Quijote, Sancho Panza and other characters tell their story in a fun and dynamic way, highlight the importance of reading and reveal the great magic that books can contain. The project presents two scenic paintings that transfer the viewer to seventeenth-century Spain through puppet theater techniques, such as thread, table and pop-up books.

Merchan considered that puppets are a valuable educational tool. They have been used a lot in pedagogical issues and have a special, almost magical attraction. Puppets have the ability to call and maintain people’s attention. There are many situations in which they are used and people feel comfortable talking to them, more than with a person.

The founder of Titirimundi reflected on the evolution of puppet art. When we started, in the 90s, thread figures were seen as elementary and basic show for children. From the end of the 80s, puppets have acquired another range and are considered more serious. They began to create adult shows and children were made of very high quality, with a more serious intention than just entertaining and making laugh.

The company presents in the first picture a bold Don Quixote who faces a lion, despite the warnings of the Leonero and Sancho Panza. In the second, the gentleman of the sad figure attends with Sancho to a chivalrous show of the Teriterro Master Pedro, whose function causes comic situations that confuse the gentleman.

The proposal, according to Rosina, “invites everyone to read Quijote and, in general, to encourage reading. The final moral is to approach the books, which are full of magic and interesting things. ”

The assembly has a creative team made up of Rosina Larrañaga and Horacio Merchan, who were in charge of the script, the direction, the production, the manipulation, the design and the executive production. The voices are in charge of Larrañaga, Blazko Scaniglia, Eduardo Javkin and Merchan, while the original music is by Roberto Morales.

THE DON DEL QUIJOTE It will be on the billboard until March 2, on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. at the La Grotto forum of the CCH (Avenida Revolution 1500, Colonia Guadalupe Inn).
