A Banksy table estimated between 3.6 and 6 million euros offered at auction in London

A Banksy table will be offered at auction in London on March 4, for an estimated price between 3 and 5 million pounds Sterling (3.6 and 6 million euros), the Sotheby’s house said on Tuesday. Baptized Crude Oil (Vetrian)and sometimes nicknamed Toxic beachthis painting of the street artist comes from the collection of the co-founder of the punk group Blink-182 Mark Hoppus, specifies a press release.

Acquired in 2011 by the American singer and musician and his wife, the painting is exhibited from February 18 to 20 in the premises of Sotheby’s in New York, before leaving in London for the preliminary exhibition of Sotheby’s from February 26 to March 4.

“We liked this painting from the moment we saw it. Undoubtedly Banksy, but different. (…) This painting counted so much for us and was such an extraordinary part of our lives, and now I am impatient that it is there, in the world, seen by as many as possible ”explains Mark Hoppus in the press release.

Presentation for the first time in 2005, this entirely painted painting is a reinterpretation of Singing Butler From Jack Vettriano (1992), in which we can see a dancing couple on a beach swept by the wind alongside a butler and a servant holding them as best they can of the umbrellas. In Banksy’s version, the servant is replaced by two men in combination loading a can with toxic content while a dark oil tanker in the background.

The record for a sale of a Banksy work is held by Love is in the bin, Table that an internal mechanism had shredded when it is sale in 2018. The same work, presented on the market three years later in its half lacerated state, had reached the sum of 21.8 million euros.

Part of the funds raised will be donated to two medical charitable organizations in Los Angeles and the California Fire Foundation, which is particularly stressed after the recent fires that ravaged California.
