Designer Yrjö Kukkapuro has died at the age of 91-almost finished chair idea was missed

Designer and interior designer Yrjö Kukkapuro has died at the age of 91. Kukkapuro died at home in Kauniainen on Saturday morning on February 8th.

Kukkapuro was born in Vyborg in 1933.

This is confirmed by Helsingin Sanomat with his daughter Isa kukkapuro-enbom. The flowerbar had a long -term illness.

“He was able to be at home from his own wish and was still quite refreshed,” says Kukkapuro-Enbom.

According to his daughter, Kukkapuro still asked last week how he would make his assistant come to him because he would have a new chair idea without finishing.

“He was quite interested in his work until his deep end.”

What kind of The chairs Kukkapuro could design, it remained a mystery for the daughter.

“I was supposed to have a long-time assistant who made all the drawings in digital form to Yrjö from the beginning of the 2000s. They would have been able to chat. Yrjö would have given instructions and Matti Kankkunen would have made Yrjö new rendering again, ”says Kukkapuro-Enbom.

“That way that would have gone forward, but now you can’t know what George had in mind.”

Kukkapuro was one of Finland’s most internationally renowned and award -winning furniture designers and a key modern in the industry.

The Kukkapuro, who graduated as an interior architect in 1958, was primarily known for its classic chairs such as carousel, studio, triennale and remni. His work is in the collections of New York Moma, the London V&A Museum and the Vitra Design Museum.

Florist The latest work was the YK91 Senior chair, which was introduced to the public at the Good Age Fair in Helsinki last fall. He had designed a chair because he longed for a raised but sufficiently sturdy chair with a short sitting depth and support for his back.
