One Holm made his most unfortunate discoveries while working in the Kallio Library.

“There was a reading stop with books, but no books were borrowed. I went to hand them a little when I noticed that there was clearly something between one book. There was a drug spike with some fluid inside, ”Holm says.

So apparently someone had come up with a good cache that someone else could go to get a dose.

What are the strange surprises between the loan books are great to tell about people?

“After all, library books have been treated quite relaxed. It may be that the books they own are even slightly more beautiful than library books that are just visiting home. Then, as a bookmark, anything is what happens to hit the hand. ”

In addition to strange and disgusting things and objects, Holm says, for example, ID cards and money have been found.

“Bigger amounts, ID cards and passports are, of course, delivered to the police if they do not directly contact the customer. We don’t like them. Or if we estimate that [esineen] The emotional value is great and we try to find the right owner, ”Holm says.

“But of course a lot goes either in the trash or on our wall.”

Ode is Helsinki’s largest library, which receives 1,300 returns from customers a day. All of them are browsed through before the books end up on the shelf, either in Oodi or in a side library.

Sometimes people rarely return to ask for their forgotten bookmarks. Feedback from customers usually applies to entries or dirt made in the books.

The library has also encountered a serial poet who, according to Holm, wrote his own texts in the library’s poetry books.
